Decatur, Illinois – On Friday, October 6th, The WSOY Community Food Drive resulted in exceeding the 1.5 million pound goal set for the single day event.  The proceeds from the food drive benefit local food pantries in the Decatur, Illinois area including the Salvation Army and Catholic Charities among others.

“The shelves at local food panties are filled for the next 12-months thanks to the generosity of the Decatur community” says Neuhoff Communications President/CEO, Beth Neuhoff, who volunteered at the event. “To think of over 1.5 million pounds of food collected in a single day by a giving community is simply remarkable.” added Neuhoff.

The day was filled with over 500 volunteers working side by side to get pallets, trucks, and even buses full of food unloaded and shipped to organizations that will distribute the food to the people that need it the most.

This was the 16th year for the WSOY Community Food Drive. Thanks to the community, the Food Drive was able to exceed its 1.5 million pound goal and raise 1,501,537 million pounds of food. This food and money will be able to go right back into the Decatur and Macon County community.
