Decatur, Illinois – On Friday, October 5th, The WSOY Community Food Drive resulted in exceeding the 1.5 million pound goal set for the single day event. This number matched the 1.5 million pounds collected in the 2017 drive. The proceeds from the food drive benefit local food pantries in the Decatur, Illinois area.
The day was filled with volunteers working side by side to get pallets, trucks, and even buses full of food unloaded and shipped to organizations that will distribute the food to the people that need it the most. Donors were able to bring purchased food, buy food in Kroger and bring it out, or make a monetary donation to the cause.
Thanks to the community, the Food Drive was able to exceed its 1.5 million pound goal and raise 1,510,412 pounds of food. This food and money will be able to go right back into the Decatur and Macon County community.
